Clarksburg City Council approved a resolution authorizing the Clarksburg Police Department to apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Assistance Grant Thursday night.

The Grant is for $14,075 to purchase of in-car cameras to help serve the community and police department. Clarksburg Mayor, Cathy Goings said the police department already has 14 cameras in place and this grant allows four more additional cameras to be placed in cruisers that currently don’t have in-car cameras.

“The reason behind all this is to protect not only the police officer but the city as well. And it will provide a view in the interior of the vehicle as well as the exterior,” said Goings.

The City of Clarksburg also just finalized a bond closure and made an amendment to a resolution lowering the amount of a street improvement and infrastructure bond loan to one point six million. Goings says the city can not wait to start the street improvements to Sycamore Street Bridge and Second Street up to Lowndes Hill.
