Davis and Elkins College has formed a new partnership to promote rail tourism in the area.
The college has joined with the National Railway Historical Society in Washington, D.C. to provide a year-long paid internship for a D&E accounting student.
The student will help the non-profit manage it’s finance over the course of a year.
Staff of both organizations said the internship is a unique opportunity that’s hard for any college to provide.
“We’re not, as a non-profit, in a position where someone is going to come in and audit us, but we want to run our organization and have our books in such a state that they could be auditable, because we have big plans for the future,” said Scarlett Wirt, National Railway Historical Society.
The opportunity will be available to an incoming junior at D&E next year.
