Fire crews in Monongalia County battled a vacant mobile home fire early Thursday morning.

Crews were dispatched just after 3:30 a.m. to a confirmed structure fire in La Mesa Village in Brookhaven, Mecca 911 said.

The development is currently under renovations and most homes are vacant, according to firefighters at the scene.

“We’ve had a problem with kids from the area coming down here, getting into the homes and doing some vandalizing to the windows and stuff like that. So, we’re going to call the State Fire Marshal and have him investigate it,” Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Chief, Jimmy Lipscomb said.

No injuries were reported. Lipscomb said the home sustained serious damage.

Brookhaven and Granville Volunteer Fire Departments, Star City Fire Department and Monongalia County EMS all responded to the scene.
