Heart & Hand House Assisting Summer Foods Program

Heart & Hand House in Philippi is partnering with Fish Hawk Market and Philippi Public Library to provide lunch for children in the community and summer reading program.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays of each week children walk next door for a prepared lunch available for participants of the Build a Better World reading program in an effort to provide nutritional meals through the vacation months.

“It’s really important because a lot of children, you know, get free lunches and free meal when they are at school, and that really helps families who are low income and are having difficulty, struggling to make ends meet and those breakfasts and lunch meals aren’t available from school,” said Executive Director Brenda Hunt.

Heart & Hand House is also providing backpacks with items for the kids to take home on the weekends, with a few items for breakfast and lunch.
