Aurora Lights and the Coopers Rock Foundation had a Hug Our Trees Day Event this morning at Coopers Rock.
The event raised awareness about the largest proposed timber project in Coopers Rock State Forest history. It’s a threat to an area of the Forest that has not been cut since 1936. People call them tree huggers so they decided to embrace the name. The Foundation met at the proposed timber site to hug trees and inform about the Forks of Scott Run Pisgah Project.
“We have a lot of concerns about the project that have not been addressed by the division of forestry. So we’re out here to raise awareness, get the public involved, and then just spread love for our trees on Valentine’s Day,” said Hannah Spencer, President of Aurora Lights.
Children were also able to get involved by making valentines for the trees.
