Kayak Float From Fairmont to Rivesville to be Held June 24

An event on Saturday will kick off the use of two new public kayak launches.

A ‘float’ event will be held on June 24 starting at Palatine Park. Participants can register starting at 10:00 a.m. Kayakers will push back at noon and float to Rivesville, where there will be food and live entertainment from Soup Camel Music.

Registration is $25 per person. Accommodations will be available for those who cannot kayak back to Palatine Park.

“There may be some folks that make the paddle to Rivesville and decide they can’t make it back here by 5 or 6 so we are going to have trucks in Rivesville to bring folks and their kayaks back if they decide they don’t want to make the return trip on the river,” said John Provins, Event Director for Marion County Parks and Recreation Commission.

Each participant will receive a commemorative medallion for participating in the float.
