A new organization is pushing for an increased use of solar energy.

More than 50 people have joined the M

Solar Co-Op. The group seeks request for proposals from local solar installers to buy solar panels in bulk, making the panels more affordable.

The co-op will benefit home owners who want an alternative energy source.

“It is free, and less Carbon Dioxide is good, and backup power for me is good,” said co-op member John Bird. “If you live out in the city, you have reliable power, but out in the woods, a limb hits a line and you lose power for a day or two.”
