Midland Elementary School in Elkins has received $1,000 from Allegheny Insurance Services, Inc. for winning the latest “Keep the Change” match donation program.
Midland Elementary students, staff and parents collected spare change to fill donated bottled water in an effort to raise funds for new playground equipment. The students raised more than $3,000 and, with the donation from Allegheny Insurance, are well on their way to the $12,000 goal.
“I was here the day that we had asked all the students to bring down their bottles, and it was cute seeing them come down the hallways with these bottles in their hands, smiles on their faces, and some of them were filled to the rim and some were only a little bit filled, but they all know that they’re participating and helping for our new playground,” said Parent Volunteer Kim White.
The school will be beginning another phase of the “Keep the Change” fundraising campaign on Halloween which will continue through mid-December.
