Skills USA Conference Kicks off in Preston County


The Skills USA opening ceremony was held to kick off its conference Friday at Camp Dawson in Preston County. 

Skills USA is a student led organization that is focused on business and industry. This is a competition designed for students enrolled in career and technical education. 

They compete in trades ranging from auto body to health occupations and even culinary arts. Nearly 1,000 students, representing every county in West Virginia are taking part in the competition. 

“You know we come up here for the competition, but we leave with new skills and leadership. That’s what we’re trying to teach everybody is they can be a leader in any job or any career that they choose,” said Colton Egnor, president of Skills USA, WV. 

Jim Justice was the guest speaker. This state conference is held once a year and winners will go to nationals in Louisville, KY.
