Supporting our local communities is important and shopping at small businesses is a great way to do just that.
Saturday marked the annual Small Business Saturday, cities around the nation participate by encouraging everyone to shop small.
West Virginia has a number of small businesses including the Arts and Antiques Marketplace in Fairmont.
Deloris Spatafore said shopping local directly benefits residents.
“When you shop local that keeps the money here, you’re helping everyday people that are just trying to make a little living to take care of their families, pay their bills,” said Spatafore.
Of course there’s no need to wait until next year’s Small Business Saturday, you can get out and shop local today.
Small Business Saturday was also taking place in small communities such as three towns in Tucker County.
Shoppers could choose from more than a dozen shops on Front Street in Thomas.
The Davis Fire Hall in Davis saw a lot of busy activity and shops in Canaan Valley also participated. Business officials said small businesses are the backbone of our economy.
