FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State University hosted a Mens and Womens basketball double-header today.
The Fighting Falcons up against the reigning MEC Conference champions of Glenville State.
The first two minutes of the game resulted in no score. Shortly after, both teams scored back and forth.
Brooke Kurucz up for two then answered by Victoria Brown. Falcons and Pioneers tied 21-21 at the end of the first.
Second quarter was more of the same. Back and forth scoring between both teams as things started to heat up offensively.
It was a one point game at the break, 47-46 Fairmont State on top.
In the second half Fairmont State comes out ready, Rachel Laskody in particular. She scored 37 points against the Pioneers.
Fairmont builds a 15 point lead which was their largest lead in the game. But, Glenville wasn’t giving up. They went on a run and cut the score to one point a few times, but could never take the lead.
Zakiyah Winfield finishes with 27 points for the Pioneers, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Fairmont State comes out on top with a final score of 101-87. Kurucz finished with 25 points for the Falcons.
Big win for Stephanie Anderson’s club.
