Barn fire in Monongalia County leaves 5 horses dead

A barn fire in Monongalia County took the lives of five horses on Thursday afternoon.

According to the River Road Volunteer Fire Department, the fire broke out around 3 p.m. at a barn located past Hagans Road, eight miles outside of Westover. The fire also caused a backup in traffic for a period of time near Arnettsville., officials said.

The River Road Volunteer Fire Department, along with several other fire departments from Monongalia and Marion Counties responded to the scene.

The State Fire Marshal said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
