A fire broke out at a house in Morgantown on Tuesday evening, causing over $80,000 worth of damages.
At 7:24 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, the Morgantown Fire Department was dispatched to a working fire in the basement of a single-family home on Parkside Lane. Fire marshals said crews found heavy smoke and fire venting from the basement window of a storage room. The fire was brought under control within several minutes.
Fire marshals said one of the occupants of the home discovered the fire in the basement and then alerted the two other family members that were upstairs. There were no injuries reported from the fire, although fire marshals said one pet cat was unaccounted for.
Fire marshals said the fire caused an estimated $85,000 in damages. Investigators believe the cause of the fire was accidental. Further investigation was temporarily suspended due to structural damage and a possible collapse hazard of the floor above the storage room, according to fire marshals
