A Greenbrier County man was hit by a train in Monongalia County Wednesday.
Kristopher Barlow, 35, of Rupert, was hit by a train on the train tracks near the Westover Bridge, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said Barlow was struck by a Norfolk Southern Railway train.
A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern Railway said Barlow was walking with his back to the train. The spokesperson said the train’s horn was sounded and the brakes were applied, but the train was unable to stop before hitting Barlow.
Barlow was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital by Monongalia County EMS, where he remains in critical condition, deputies said.
Because the incident occurred on railroad property, the railroad police were notified and responded from Pittsburgh, Pa. to investigate the accident, deputies said.
