UPDATE: Train derails in Randolph County; no injuries reported

UPDATE (8/22/21 1:15 p.m.):

BEMIS, W.Va. – The train was headed from High Falls to Elkins when it slipped from its track. There were about 80 people on board.

No injuries occurred and no cars were involved. The train and rails sustained minimal structural damage.

According to officials from Mountain Rail, the train will be taken off within the week. Everyone on board was bused back to their cars.

ORIGINAL STORY (8/21/21 9:10 p.m.):

BEMIS, W.Va. – A train carrying dozens of people derailed Saturday in Randolph County, in the Bemis area.

According to Randolph County 911, almost 100 people were on board the train when the incident happened. No injuries were reported in the derailing.

There is no word at this time on what caused the derailment.
