The Ritchie County Board of Education met in June for a regular scheduled meeting.

The board authorized the sale of the Ellenboro Elementary property to the city of Ellenboro. The facility was previously planned to be demolished, but the board is hopeful that the money from the sale will benefit the county as a whole.

This meeting was the last for three board members; president Ed Cokeley, Brain Walton, and Carolyn Bowie. It was also Superintendent Rick Coffman’s last meeting.

“Three of us did not run for re-election, so there will be three new board members starting Monday. I just hope that they can focus on academics and improving the excellence of the education system in Ritchie County,” said president Ed Cokeley.

The new superintendent and board members will be at the next meeting on July 23, 2018.
