Several counties throughout the region were hit hard by flood waters.
Barbour County residents are still feeling the effects of the heavy rainfall after waking up to the Belington Veterans Memorial Bridge closure. The bridge is heavily trafficked but had to be closed due to high flood waters on the Tygart Valley River.
“Since the bridge closure, we do have fire, EMS, and police department on the other side of the bridge covering that area. With the bridge being closed, you’re talking another eight to ten mile further to get to an accident or an emergency,” said Belington Mayor Matt Ryan.
Crews are working hard to keep residents safe and off the bridge until further notice. Mayor Ryan said the waters are receding quickly.
