Barbour County Health Department officials are working to remind residents they are still able to get the flu shot this late in the season.

Barbour County Health Department provides flu shots to the community through the fall and winter months to prepare residents.  Officials said peak flu season hasn’t hit, but getting a shot now is the best way to prevent any issues.

“A lot of times people just get busy and they forget.  They haven’t gotten the flu; they haven’t seen a lot of symptoms in other people.  They think ‘Ah, I’m good,’ and then it creeps up on them.  That’s why it’s really important that they do that,” said Barbour County Health Department Administrator Annette Santilli.

The health department will continue to provide flu shots through December, and at the start of the new year.

Officials said the best way to combat illness is good hygiene practices.
