Law enforcement officers honored for saving a Barbour County man’s life

Two Barbour County law enforcement officers were recognized during a pinning ceremony at Philippi City Hall.

Patrolman Shane Miller of the Philippi City Police and Chief Deputy Brett Carpenter of the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department receiving Life Saving Commendation badges. City officials and first responders honored both with the commendation for going above and beyond to save a local man’s life.

“I feel that they don’t get recognized for stuff they do out of their norm, and that day was not in their norm. They helped us beat the odds and helped a family be able to stay together and help a loved one come home,” Barbour County EMS Paramedic Shayne Brown.

“There’s not enough us to really go one-on-one with anything.  We have to rely on the other departments for assistance on some things, and it is just a great feeling because I can count on the other departments,” said Philippi Police Patrolman Shane Miller.

Officials said the commendations come after the quick actions of the officers and the continued work that first responders do within the county.
