History is a huge part of the United States as a whole but West Virginia is one state that brings history to life.
West Virginia was founded during the time of the Civil War and the Blue and Gray reunion is all about reenacting these historic events.
This reenactment has been taking place in Philippi the weekend after Memorial Day for over 30 years.
Federal Commander historian and actor, Kevin Skaggs, said historians from surrounding areas came to Philippi to relive and act out events from the battle of Philippi during the Civil War.
“If you are a native West Virginian and have had family live here for years and years, there’s a better chance than not that you had relatives that fought in this in this war, so this is your history, it’s my history I’m a native West Virginian, so I’m very proud of it,” said Skaggs.
This event included a presentation of canon firings and a march throughout the town.
Historians say this event is put on every year in memory of how West Virginia became an official state.
