An area city is looking at annexing a large portion of land just outside its city limits.
Buckhannon officials are looking at taking over 150 acres of land in the Brushy Fork area of Upshur County.
The move comes as new utility construction is making development of the area more likely, and city officials said they want to be prepared for the needs that new businesses may have.
“If you’re talking about annexing another 150 acres, that’s the equivalent of six or seven percent of your current geographic body coming in to the city limits. We think there’s an opportunity for growth out there on the Brushy Fork Road,” said Buckhannon Mayor David McCauley.
McCauely said the city expects to see much more growth when Corridor H is finally completed.
