The chief of the Buckhannon Fire Department has submitted his resignation to city council.

Jim Townsend resigned from the department, effective immediately, citing personal reasons, according to Councilman Robbie Skinner. The city will officially accept his resignation at a special meeting this Thursday.

Captain J.B. Kimble will serve as interim chief until city council hires Townsend’s replacement. Townsend was hired by the city in May 2016.
