Buckhannon Upshur High School is one of three schools in the state to be awarded the “Financial Literacy High School Pilot Grant”.
This grant will be utilized by personal finance teacher, Christy Dean, to purchase additional games, book field trips, and have guest speakers.
The students are currently learning how to balance a check book, read a pay check, plan a household budget, investmenting, and planning for the future.
“A lot of people are in major amounts of debt and kids need to know how to manage that, and to still be able to live the life,” said Dean. “They want to be able to live, and to be able to take care of things in an important manner and how to be able to get to where they want to.”
Meadow Bridge High School in Fayette County, and Paw Paw High School in Morgan County also received the grant.
