Local Kmart store to close

Sears Holdings has announced that a local K-Mart location will be closing in 2018.

The company announced that 64 Kmart stores will be closing across the county, including a store in our area. 

According to a release, the store located at 102 Emily Drive in Clarksburg is among the closings.

Two additional locations at 1477 MacCorkle Avenue in St. Albans and 5636 U.S. Route 60 East in Huntington are also expected to close.

The closings are expected to take place in early April 2018.

Sears Holdings has released the following statement:

“Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size. In the process, as previously announced we will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members.The company on Thursday, January 4 informed associates at 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores that we will be closing these stores between early March and early April 2018.”

Sears Holdings goes on to say that employees affected by the closures will be able to apply to nearby Kmart and Sears Stores. 

The closings are expected to take place in early April 2018.
