Chainsaw carvers give new life to tree stump at Lewis County school

News

A Lewis County school has a special monument created from an old tree stump.

Jane Lew Elementary students watched an old tree get carved into a statue on Thursday.  The Mason Dixon Boys used only their chainsaws to create the sculpture.

Jane Lew Elementary principal Denise Sprouse said the final piece will have all the details of the character traits they are trying to teach students.

“There is going to be an eagle at the top, and in its talons will be a dream catcher, and then the word ‘dream,’ because we use the dream catcher as our logo for our positive behavior support program, and every morning we recite our dream catcher pledge,” said principal Denise Sprouse.

Dominion Energy provided the funding for the chainsaw carving masterpiece.
