Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library and Unicare Health plan host backpack give-away for kids

News

The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library and Unicare Health Plan of West Virginia sponsored a backpack give-away event this morning, with assistance from ‘Parents as Teachers and Choices’ to help out kids as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

Students not only received school supplies, but also toiletries, and parents received information on childcare and healthcare.

The library expects to assist 150 families with this event.

“Just keeping the backpacks stocked throughout the year takes the burden off of the teachers and it also takes the burden off the parents [so] they can take that money and spend it on something else to keep themselves healthy, to do recreational activities for their kids and it kind of puts it back into the community as well.”

The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library will have a “Re-pack the Backpack” event in January.
