2 Fairmont Senior High School students detained, charged for threatening school shooting

Two Marion County juveniles were detained early Wednesday morning after allegedly threatening to bring a gun to school and start shooting.

A 15-year-old Fairmont Senior High School student made the threats on social media Tuesday night, according to Fairmont Police Chief Steve Shine. 

Shine said authorities went to the student’s home a few hours before school Wednesday and apprehended him. The 15-year-old student. whose identity will not be released, was taken to a juvenile detention facility following a juvenile detention hearing, Shine said.

A 14-year-old student mimicked the other student’s threats and has also been detained, Shine said. At this time, charges are pending against the other student, as well.

Shine said while arresting the 15-year-old student at his home Wednesday morning, they did not locate a firearm.
