An Upshur County man and a woman were arrested on outstanding warrants following a drug seizure in Buckhannon on Wednesday.

Members of the Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit, along with deputies from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at a residence on Hall Road near Buckhannon on Wednesday, January 9.

According to deputies, during this search heroin, methamphetamine, oxycodone and a large sum of cash were seized. Deputies said they arrested Garry Moran II, 38, of Buckhannon, and Johnna Courtney, 37, on outstanding warrants. Moran was arrested on a warrant related to an October 2018 vehicle search conducted by the Fairmont Police Department.

Officers with the Fairmont Police Department said that on October 18, 2018, they were investigating a suspicious vehicle complaint on Gaston Avenue in Fairmont. Officers said they performed an open air K9 scan of a white Chevrolet Cruze, which was occupied by Moran and a passenger.

Officers said that after the K9 gave a positive indication on the car, a search was conducted. According to police, during the search officers located a quantity of a substance believed to be fentanyl, five oxycodone 30 milligram pills, materials used to package drugs for resale and $821 in cash. Officers said the substance located was later field tested, and tested positive for fentanyl.

A warrant for Moran’s arrest was then issued, which led to Moran’s January 9, 2019 arrest.

Moran was charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and conspiracy to commit a felony, and Courtney was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.
