A Barbour County man was arrested in Elkins Saturday for possession and fleeing with reckless indifference.

According to the criminal complaint, West Virginia State Police were advised Saturday evening that an unmarked black motorcycle had fled from Elkins Police headed towards Crystal Springs. The driver of the motorcycle was Shawn Gill, 39, of Belington, according to the criminal complaint.

State police gave chase on Route 219 until Gill attempted to enter another highway, slid on gravel and wrecked his motorcycle, according to the complaint. Gill then fled on foot through a wooded area, with police pursuing on foot, according to state police.

During the foot chase, Gill threw multiple items from his pockets, officers observed. After Gill was caught, the arresting officer found a large amount of cash in Gill’s possession, as well as bags containing a white crystal-like substance when searching the areas where Gill tossed items from his pockets, according to the complaint.

Gill is currently awaiting trial in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
