A Harrison County man has been arrested after police said he engaged in sexual acts with a 7-year-old female relative.

On April 15, 2019, Bridgeport Police arrested Anthony Coleman, 39, of Bridgeport, for incidents that occurred between Jan. 16, 2011 and Jan. 5 2012, according to the criminal complaint.

Between those dates, Coleman admitted to being alone at a residence in the Jarvisville area of Salem with a 7-year-old girl, according to Bridgeport Police. During that time, Coleman told police the girl may have performed sexual acts on him, though he did not recall the incidents because he was asleep and had been highly intoxicated, according to the complaint.

However, Coleman did acknowledge that he and the girl were the only ones present in the resident at the time of the events, according to the complaint. Officers said the girl was under Coleman’s care at this time.

Coleman has been charged with first degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust.
