A Clarksburg daycare worker has been arrested after she allegedly dislocated a child’s elbow.
Aryn Lafferty, 24, of Morgantown, was arrested Monday on child abuse charges.
On Thursday, April 19, FBI Police Officer Joseph Bush was alerted of a potential child abuse investigation at Lasting Impressions Child Development in Clarksburg.
Officers said video evidence, dated April 17, showed Lafferty grabbing an 18-month-old girl “by her wrist, jerking the child up causing the child’s head to snap back in a whiplash manner, spinning the girl 180 degrees by her wrist with enough force the child’s head remained whipped back throughout the spin, slinging her to a different location on the floor.”
The girl’s mother was called after the incident, and the girl was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with nursemaid’s elbow, according to court documents.
According to the criminal complaint, other employees at the daycare told authorities this was not the first time Lafferty had yanked a child. Employees also told police that Lafferty had previously been reprimanded for getting into a child’s face while screaming at the child.
Lafferty is charged with felony child abuse by a parent or guardian resulting in injury.
