Preston County Deputies arrested a man after a vehicle chase.

On June 27, deputies said they saw a Polaris Razor driving west on Route 7 in the eastbound lane.  A deputy followed the vehicle and saw it cross the center line several times, according to the sheriff’s office.

A deputy turned on his lights and siren, but the driver accelerated and refused to stop, according to the sheriff’s office.  Deputies said the vehicle went west on Route 7 and turned onto Indian Rock Road.  While on Indian Rock Road, the driver nearly hit a vehicle that was traveling toward him, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver then turned onto Gamble Hollow Road, where his vehicle crashed, deputies said.  A deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the driver, Austin Newsome, 21, of Kingwood, according to the sheriff’s office.  A deputy administered three sobriety tests on Newsome at the sheriff’s office, where he showed signs of impairment, deputies said.  Newsome twice refused to take a breathalyzer test, according to the sheriff’s office.

Newsome is charged with fleeing while DUI and fleeing with reckless indifference.  He is in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
