Fairmont Police have arrested a man Friday on a drug charge.
William Copney, 31, of Morgantown, has been charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.
According to officials, officers were conducting surveillance on June 7 at the Avenue Motel when they witnessed a stationary red 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty sitting in the lower parking lot of Burger King. Officers said they saw what looked to be a drug transaction happen.
Officers said they followed the vehicle after it left the Burger King parking lot, and pulled the vehicle over after it did not stop at the stop sign on the intersection of 10th Street and Virginia Avenue.
After stopping the vehicle, officers identified Copney and realized that he had an active warrant through the Monongalia County Magistrate Court and placed him under arrest.
Officers said that after a search was conducted, they found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine inside of Copney’s shorts, as well as $398 in cash, a black mini scale and another plastic bag also containing methamphetamine in side of the vehicle.
Approximately six grams of methamphetamine were seized from Copney, according to court documents.
