A Clarksburg man accused of killing his father appeared in court Tuesday for a status hearing.
Michael Griffith is accused of shooting and killing his father, Clifford Allen Powers, in June 2017.
Griffith waived his right to a speedy trial in front of Judge Thomas Bedell Tuesday and will appear for a pre-trial conference on November 1 at 1:15 p.m.
According to police, Griffith said Powers was physically abusive to he and his mother during his childhood and admitted that on the day of the shooting he had intentions of confronting Powers.
An admitted audio recording of a conversation between Griffith and the investigating officer is stated to have Griffith saying he felt relief after the incident.
The trial is set for November 5.
