Jury selection comes to a close for Lena Lunsford’s trial in Lewis County


UPDATE (4/13/18 6:20 p.m.):

A full jury has been selected ahead of a Lewis County murder trial involving a woman accused of killing her daughter.

The Lewis County Circuit Clerk’s Office said a jury has been seated in the case against Lena Lunsford who has been accused of killing Aliayah Lunsford in September 2011.

Prosecutors said Lena Lunsford hit her daughter in the head with a solid, handheld object.

Lena Lunsford’s trial will begin on Monday.

ORIGINAL (4/12/18 11:50 a.m.):

Jury selection for a murder trial in Lewis County began for a mother charged in the death of her daughter. 

Lena Lunsford is accused of killing her daughter, Aliayah Lunsford, by hitting her in the head with a solid, handheld object on September 24, 2011. 

Potential jurors are being brought individually into the judges chambers and are being questioned by lawyers from both sides in addition to taking questions from Judge Jacob Reger in the courtroom.

12 News reporter Alex Hines said that Lunsford is present with her attorneys for these interviews.

About 20 of the original 72 jurors originally summoned to appear in court were dismissed by Reger for various reasons.
