A man has been arrested in Marion County after deputies said they found roughly a quarter pound of marijuana in his backpack.
On Wednesday, March 20, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Microtel Inn Suites located on Southwind Drive in Fairmont for a reported domestic situation. Upon arrival on scene, deputies said they made contact with Bryce Trippett, 19, who answered the door. Deputies said Trippett stated there was no domestic incident.
Deputies then entered the room and observed two more men and a woman who identified themselves to law enforcement. While speaking with all the people in the room, officers said they observed an odor of marijuana. Deputies located a black backpack in the room and asked the occupants of the room who it belonged to. After receiving no initial response, deputies asked who the backpack belonged to again and Trippett stated it was his.
Deputies then asked Tripppett if there were any illegal drugs in the backpack, at which time he responded there was marijuana inside. After receiving verbal permission to search the backpack from Trippett, officers located approximately 116.3 grams, which is over four ounces and roughly a quarter pound, of marijuana, according to court documents. Deputies said they also located a digital scale with marijuana residue on it and two packaging bags with marijuana blunts inside of them in the backpack. Deputies also located $535 in Trippett’s pocket.
Trippett has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
