A Marion County man was arrested on New Year’s Eve after firing a shotgun inside a residence.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, deputies received a call on December 31 at approximately 11:23 p.m. that reported shots being fired at a residence on Michael Hill Road in Worthington. Upon arrival on scene, deputies said they made contact with the caller who told them that Walter Ash, 48, of Worthington fired a shotgun inside of the residence. According to deputies, there were at least five witnesses in the residence that confirmed the shots were fired inside the residence. Upon further investigation, deputies said they found that no one was struck by the firearm.
Deputies said that during the investigation, they located Ash on the property in a residence next to the residence where the shots were fired. Deputies that said they obtained a search warrant for the residences on the property. Upon executing the search warrant, deputies said they located a pistol grip 12 gauge pump shotgun inside of the residence that Ash was located in.
Deputies said that while speaking to Ash, he admitted to brandishing and discharging the firearm inside of the residence. According to deputies, Ash told them that the shotgun they located was the firearm used during the incident.
Ash has been charged with five counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm.
