Officers have arrested a Fairmont woman on child abuse charges.

Police say that they were called to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport for a child abuse complaint.

Nurses told officers that they attempted to enter the hospital room occupied by Johnna Harker, 26, of Fairmont on April 19. Officers say that the door was blocked and the nurse was unable to gain access.

Officers then say that a man inside the room removed the item blocking the door and allowed the nurse to enter.

Nurses then told police that the Harker’s newborn baby girl was born with a narcotic dependency and was being monitored closely with withdrawal symptoms.

Officers said that nurses later noticed that the baby’s Neonatal Abstinence Score was dramatically reduced.

Due to the dramatic drop in scores, a doctor at UHC ordered urine testing for narcotics on the baby according to police.

Police say that the drug urine screen showed positive for Buprenorphine and that the baby was not given any medication that would cause a positive test result.

Harker was arrested with child abuse with risk of injury.
