A Taylor County woman has been arrested after officers said she stole more than $6,000 from Payless at the Meadowbrook Mall, taking cash “almost every day” for four months while she was an employee.

On Tuesday, March 19, officers with the Bridgeport Police Department arrived at Payless ShoeSource at the Meadowbrook Mall in Bridgeport to investigate a report of embezzlement. Upon arrival, officers said they spoke with the Payless district manager, who said she was contacted by a member of the cash management team for Payless on February 26 about a missing deposit from the store.

The cash management employee told police that Mallory Shultz, 27, of Grafton was working on February 26, according to court documents. Officers said the cash management employee contacted Shultz about the missing deposit, who stated that the bank had lost the deposit. However, officers said the cash management employee stated she contacted the bank and discovered the bank had never received the deposit.

Both the district manager and the cash management employee were looking into the missing deposit and discovered multiple cash shortages from times when Shultz was working, according to police. Officers said that when the cash management employee came into the store on Tuesday to investigate the multiple cash shortages, Shultz admitted to taking cash from the store almost every day since November 1, 2018. Shultz also admitted to taking merchandise from the store and stated she took approximately $6,699.00.

Shultz has been charges with embezzlement, according to court documents.
