Shinnston man faces new charges for injuring pregnant woman in high-speed chase

A Shinnston man, who led police on a high-speed chase through Harrison County last month, is facing new charges after the incident.

Chazz Lucas, 32, is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference causing injury after the chase on September 25.

Lucas led police through parts of Haywood, Lumberport and Dola before wrecking the vehicle into a stopped police cruiser on Gregory’s Run Road, according to court documents.

A pregnant woman was in the vehicle with Lucas and was taken to UHC by EMS due to injuries sustained in the accident, police said. The woman was rushed to emergency surgery to deliver the baby, and she and the baby were later transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The baby was placed on life support, police said, but later succumbed to his injuries on September 26 approximately eight hours after his birth.

The Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office said other charges may be pending against Lucas.
