The Buckhannon Police Department has arrested an Upshur County man it said fought officers following a pursuit.

Police said they attempted to stop an ATV traveling on Heavner Grove Road in Buckhannon, when the driver, 53-year-old Michael Gregory of Buckhannon, sped up and refused to stop.

Officers said the ATV approached a switchback, turned around and hit the police cruiser.

Police then said they used a taser, which they said had no effect on Gregory.

Officers said when they attempted to handcuff Gregory, he began to attack an officer, and at one point attempted to reach for the officer’s gun.

Police then said the officers were able to arrest Gregory following the altercation.

Gregory has been charged with fleeing from an officer, escape from custody, and unlawful assault, police said.
