A Doddridge County fire department voluntarily shut down Monday, according to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The McClellan District Volunteer Fire Department cited several deficiencies concerning defective and out-of-date equipment, according to the fire marshal’s office.
The fire marshal’s office identified the deficiencies after an investigation, which was prompted by a complaint to the agency, officials said.
Officials said residents of the Center Point community will be covered temporarily by the Smithburg, Shirley and Salem volunteer fire departments and that fire service will not be interrupted.
The fire department will remain closed while it undergoes a restructuring and until the cited deficiencies are corrected, officials said. After completing both steps, the department could resume operations, officials said.
