WEST UNION, W.Va. – Nonprofit groups in two area counties learned how to find and keep volunteers Wednesday afternoon.
The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation held a free workshop in West Union for nonprofits in Doddridge and Ritchie counties.
The workshop taught those organizations how to help fill volunteer gaps, whether in volunteers’ age or volunteer engagement.
Organizers said volunteer hours are often critical to those groups’ success.
“Volunteers are critical to almost every nonprofit that I know of because nonprofits have limited resources to hire staff, and so volunteers bring in all those extra skills and talents,” said organizer Marian Clowes, who works with the foundation.
The workshop was funded with a grant from the USDA’s Rural Community Development Initiative program.
