Buckhannon Toyota supports school backpack program

Education

Nine schools in Upshur County will benefit from a $20,000 donation from Buckhannon Toyota.

School administrators, principles, and teachers expressed their gratitude for the donation during a check presentation at the car center Friday afternoon.  The donation will help fund the county’s growing backpack program which serves nearly 600 students.

“Truly, this is just a reflection of how much this community supports the children and families of our community.  There are nearly 600 who take a backpack home and this donation is going to make that possible,” said Superintendent Dr. Sara Stankus.

Officials say they are working toward providing an on-site food pantry to support increased child participation.

The backpack program operates completely on donations and volunteerism.
