Elkins Middle School celebrates Chinese New Year

Middle School students in Randolph County celebrated the Chinese New Year in fashion and costume.

Elkins Middle School sixth-grade students spent the last several weeks learning all about the Asian culture and designing dragon masks in honor of the holiday.  Instructors said the parade has become a tradition at the middle school, and the students’ creativity really shines.

“They get to see how different parts of the world are and how we can connect with other people.  This has become a tradition here at Elkins Middle School.  We have done it for over ten years,” said Annette Jordan, sixth-grade English teacher.

The Chinese New Year starts after the first full moon of the year.  This is the year of the dog.
