Harrison County Elks provide grant to Energy Express program

Education

The Harrison County Elks awarded its Beacon grant to the Harrison County Parks and Recreation’s Energy Express sites.

The Beacon grant will provide backpacks during the five-week program so that 160 kids will have a meal over the weekend.

“With the jobs situations and things along that line, we have many grandparents raising their grandchildren now and sometimes the food may be an issue,” Jeff Barnhart, Harrison County Elks.

Parks and Rec. directors are still looking for one more Energy Express mentor. A mentor is any college bound or current college student who is interested in working with kids over the summer. To be a mentor, call (304) 423-7800.
