Harrison County students return to school and Johnson Elementary opens in time for students

Education

Students returned to the classroom in Harrison County on Wednesday, and for students at Johnson Elementary, this meant the first day in their new school.

Johnson Elementary has a new drop off routine to help with the flow of traffic. Parents traveling to Johnson Avenue for school drop off at the middle and high schools might have noticed the heavy traffic Wednesday morning. Johnson Elementary has an area where parents can park and walk in students, or there is a faster way for parents on the go.

“We have the fast lane, which is the drop and go. Have the kids ready, and then they exit out the right-hand side of the car, and then they have a long sidewalk to enter to go into the building,” explained Vicki Huffman, principal of Johnson Elementary.

The new school is more than 66,000 square feet.
