A Lewis County teacher received statewide recognition for trying to draw attention to the issues teachers face year-round.
Jane Lew Elementary School teacher Sharon Minigh wrote a letter to legislators in Charleston that was picked up by a newspaper there highlighting the challenges teachers and students face year-round.
Minigh said many teachers hope for more support on a variety of issues that affect their kids’ education.
“There’s the drug epidemic that we’ve heard so much about, there’s battles against our families, there’s mental health crises, and we’re facing all that with our young children, and we’ve felt left and alone and it’s just been building and building and building,” said Minigh.
Minigh said many of her concerns come after years of feeling that teachers had been pushed aside in West Virginia.
