Students from Simpson Elementary and other schools in Harrison County read with teachers

Students from Simpson Elementary gathered Monday with parents and teachers in front of the school.

Parents organized a Dr. Seuss Reading Day since the students were not in school on his birthday.

Students took turns reading from “Oh, the Places You’ll Go as parents and teachers cheered them on.

One of the parent organizers said that the students missed seeing their teachers and were excited to read to them.

“Just basically come, have the kids read to the teachers and I think it is important that we show them we are backing them and that we believe in what they are doing,” said Sarah Dodson, parent organizer.

In addition to reading, the students held supportive signs alongside teachers.
