The West Virginia University Board of Directors approved on raising tuition nearly six percent for both resident and non-resident.undergraduate students.
With nearly 5,000 incoming freshman students attending this fall semester, compensation adjustments would be totaling to about $30 million. These adjustments include an increase in state appropriations, technology upgrades and increases in costs of supplies and services, including utilities and increases in graduate stipends to maintain research efforts.
“Tuition increases and expense reductions are always difficult decisions,” Vice President for Finance Paula Congelio said. “However, we must continue to work towards improving the quality of the student experience while decreasing costs. To not do so could have detrimental effects on our academic programming.”
The tuition increase will also include the WVU Institute of Technology in Beckley and Potomac State College of WVU in Keyser.
Next board of directors meeting will be on June 22 in Morgantown. The tuition change will begin on July 1.
